中文：西方思想的特質似乎是各式各樣張力的開展。其中一股張力，即所謂的「雅典與耶路撒冷」之爭。這兩座古城分別象徵以理性還有神啟為依歸的生活。阿奎那可說是主張理性與神啟殊途同歸的代表。他所激發的托馬斯派（Thomism）則體現了天主教傳統的「融合」觀。與此相異，十九世紀的丹麥思想家、路德宗齊克果（Søren Kierkegaard）則主張兩者誓不兩立。本課程的目標之一，就是在雅典與耶路撒冷的背景下，釐清齊克果的定位。
理性與神啟的課題，在齊克果的思想中開展為哲學與信仰的辯證。此處「辯證」一詞，特別指兩者糾葛難清的牽連。齊克果確實主張，兩者有「非此即彼」的根本對立：以信仰之父亞伯拉罕為榜樣，就是拒絕哲學、拒絕「倫理學」。可是另一方面，他不屑思路不清的生命立場，又暗示他的信仰抉擇恐怕不是全然非理性的。此外，他對於「哲學之父」蘇格拉底的景仰，還進一步揭示哲學是嚴肅的生命選項，可與信仰生活平起平坐。
理性與倫理規範在宗教生活中的地位為何？信仰本身是否有「形上學條件」？本課程將透過細讀《恐懼與顫慄》與《哲學碎屑（又譯哲學斷簡）》兩書，初探齊克果對相關問題的看法。
Athens and Jerusalem represent, respectively, the life oriented by "reason" and "revelation." It has been said that the vitality of Western thought lies in the ever-renewed responses to the tension between these two orientations. If Thomas Aquinas, the Christian of the middle ages, claimed that the two are merely different ways of reaching the same goal, Soren Kierkegaard, the 19th century Lutheran, represents the view that reason and faith are in a deadly conflict, never to be reconciled.
According to Kierkegaard, the highest accomplishment of life in accordance with reason is to become a philosopher, and Socrates is the role model of such a life. The role model of the life of faith is, by contrast, Abraham. Philosophy and Faith constitute the "either-or" of life. How does Kierkegaard show their radical disjunction? Are his arguments convincing? This course will introduce his Fear and Trembling and Philosophical Fragment by way of two short Socratic dialogues by Plato, the Euthyphro and Meno.
